whats ur opinion?

i was in a game (wont mention any names, as i dont think thats fair) where:

i was red strong in the south
yellow was strong in the north
teal was strongish but weaker than myself and teal
and purple was in behind teal with 2 or 3 lands flagging for 3rd

myself and teal both had equal lands give or take 1 or 2, and he was begging for teals help as he kept asking me why i wasnt flagged 2nd.

i ignored him as much as possible to buy me some time to expand but teal eventually attacked me, i instantly flagged 2nd. they both persisted in attacking me despite my asking yellow to let us fight 2nd, to which his response was 'truces>flags'

now, id understand and probaby agree with this 9 outa 10 times but myself and yellow never attacked eachother all game cos we were at opposite ends of the board therefore not having any trouble with eachother...

i got annoyed with yellows lack of letting me and teal fight and him not attacking purple.

i asked if i was gona get 4th when TEAL REFLAGGED 3rd!

why didnt he do that many rounds ago...

a stupid game with a player a liked...

so whats your opinion?

flags > truces or truces > flags?

Your position is one of those gray areas. 9/10 I say truces>flags; however, this seems like one of those 1/10 times.

Flags are virtual truces with 1st.

It goes that truces > flags.

The only situation where this isnt the case is where your ally has maybe just one land left...and it will take a looooooong time to kill the other player off entirely. If it takes more than 20+ rounds to mop up to help your ally... then it's okay to say to your ally, im sorry you're gonna have to settle for 3rd.

truces > flags though in almost all situations, imo

I am glad grunvagr brought that last point up because it can indeed be a valid reason to overrule the truce>flags if your partner was reduced to 1 stack or if the opponent really gave a trully heroic battle and kinda deserves 2nd.

personally, i wouldn't say "you have to take 3rd" but I would at least ask my truce partner to flag. A typical truce partner with a sense of fairness and kdice honour will sometimes flag by himself without even asking. But if you ask and he still wants 2nd, I still think you need to help him get it.

At that point I ask the 3rd person to suicide to make his death quick and less costly in points.

only respect the flags you need in order to win.
