Flagging is part of the strategy. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

Kdice is meant to be a social game, and I would describe flagging as one of the social features of gameplay--who will respect which flags, etc. It brings an element of deal making to the game.

I know there are many people who don't like the concept of flagging. If you want to play only players that go for the winner all the time and never flag, dice wars is perfect for you.

flaggers can never win because you can at most flag for 2nd.

Sure, as a point race, point snatching by flagging brings its twists. But the way people use the flagging simply deteriorates the game play itself. To exaggerate, why not change kdice to give all the points to a 7th place finish. This would also add some interesting twists. But if this were done, the game play itself would even further deteriorate with people suiciding 2v8 to get some points. It should be all about the quality of the game play, like it used to be.

p.s. actually it is possible, but very rare, that a flagger does win.

It should be all about the quality of game play. I personally get most enjoyment in making every attempt to win a particular game. The problem is that others have the goal of getting the most overall points. While this certainly makes sense, unfortunately the flagging system allows them to do so at the expense of actually trying to win the game at hand. And this then allows whoever is in first at the moment (even if poorly positioned and weak) to automatically obtain truce-like friends and easily take out the "better" players (in the sense of the ones who were actually positioning themselves to win). This is so ironic, since the best way to win is actually to be somewhat careless and get people to truce-flag.

Whatever the final solution, I hope it aligns winning the immediate game with winning the points race. Anything else and the game suffers.
