Round 2, my turn.
I attack a 2 with a 3 stack - fail I attack a 3 with a 4 stack - fail I attack a 3 with a 5 stack - fail The chances are 0.5%, that is 1 in 200. The thing is this happens a lot. How on earth can a 1 in 200 occurence crop around 10% of the time. It is absurd. I have played backgammon for many, many years; a game that focuses closely on dice outcomes. I would need to play backgammon another 10 years to see these bizarre kdice outcomes play out in reality. |

at 12:28 PM, Tuesday February 12, 2008 EST BTW, I was given a luck rating 46.8% in the above game.
My real luck factor was less than 1%, considerable less than 1%. Do other players notice these bizarre outcomes that crop up all to often? |

at 1:11 PM, Tuesday February 12, 2008 EST i think its that you remember when you dramatically lose more than when you dramatically win.
the only trend that i might see that is odd is that when you roll low with a big stack, it tends to keep rolling low... i.e. when youre trying to connect that 8stack island, and you win your first roll 18 16 on a 8v3, then i almost expect the following 7v5 attack to lose. credit goes to cody on this conspiracy theory, as he suggested it way back in like february. watching him play was always funny, cus if he rolled a high 8stack, then he would click click click attack as fast as possible. and when he rolled a low 8stack, he would go as slow as possible, attack in other areas of the map, before coming back and commencing with the 7v attack. |

at 1:29 PM, Tuesday February 12, 2008 EST don't worry, The random number generator is actually Ryan's Dad, Ryan asked for help, his Dad din't realise what for. So yea his Dad is getting a bit old and synical so Ryan is going to employ a small child from a 3rd world coutry for cheap labour, don't want to waste the members money now.

at 1:44 PM, Tuesday February 12, 2008 EST Do you really lose 3v2 and 5v3 10% of the time?
You should also note that the chance of winning all three of these roles is only 48%. |

at 3:57 PM, Tuesday February 12, 2008 EST you lose much more often to greater advantage. Within one round, for example a 6v3 and a 5v3 from two separate players lost.
I think it is pretty clear that for a 6v3 loss you need a 3/200 chance... and to lose a 5v3 91/1000. For both to happen in the same round you'd need a 0.23% chance that that'd happen. The only problem is that things like this happen much more frequently in the past few weeks. My probability is less than that of Jules, and yet I encounter it frequently throughout the course of 5 games... If not myself then other people. Nothing has changed with the probability? |

at 5:49 PM, Tuesday February 12, 2008 EST First of all obscurehero, I'm not calling you out so don't take this personally.
Everyone needs to forget about the "luck" value as it doesn't mean crap. It's some weird formula that has little to no bearing on the real world, so don't bother consulting it too much other than as a ballpark estimate. You were also a bit wrong on your probabilities: 6v3 has a 2.5% chance of failing 5v3 has a 9.1% chance of failing Those are significant values, even if they are somewhat low probability. 6v3 loss is one in every 40. The OPs complaints were 3v2 loss (22.19%), 4v3 (25.75%) and 5v3 (9.1%). Yes losing them all in the same round is uncommon, but again, nothing to get too worked up about. |
