A lesson learned in the last game of the month (Jan, 2008)

I was playing in a table which eventually was the last game of Jan, 2008. Basically, this was happened. I was the 1st(brown) early in the game, and i did have lots of good restack together with 8 or 9 territories. Teal was beside me and also got some sick restack. Since this was the last game, none of us wanted waste extra time, so teal flagged to me and said he only wanted 2nd. And i did believe he deserve it based on the number of dices and land. Red is in the bottom of me. In order to end this game quicker, i asked if he wanted to peace? He didn't reply me, all he did was typed" lol " which really confused me since I couldn't understand if he agreed or not. I waited several around, and decided that he might not want to flag or peace with me. Note that there were only me, teal(brown), red, blue(with one territory) and green (4 territories) left. In order to attack green and blue, i need to pass through red, so i did attack red. Right after that, I saw red's flag, so I typed "sry, red, didn't see you flag. However red started attacking me after that, which was probably because I attacked him first without noticing his flag(he flagged 2nd as well). Anyway, he (red) kept attacking me and keep winning, and I didn't win a single roll until 8 around.) Me (brown) , teal (flagged 2nd) and red (flagged 2nd) were the ones still in the game. All I had was 3 territories due to my luck. Anyway, So eventually teal taken over my last land and I had to end up with 3rd. Obviously, if i knew what was the end earlier in the game, i wouldn't listen and mind their flag to me.
Anyway, I didn't want to mention the names of these two players since its not the purpose of me writing this post. I can only tell ya that teal was ranked 6th and red was ranked 47th after the game. I just wanted to say that I leaned a lesson from this game, never trust any players that flagged early in the game specially when you are in 2500+ table. You probably respect flag just as what I do. But do not easily trust all the these flagged players even if you are in the 1st unless they only have like 2 land left. You would never know what they are gonna do to you. I hope that help for some of you guys. Good luck and see ya in Feb. |

at 9:49 AM, Friday February 1, 2008 EST although there is no rule governing players to accept flags, but most DECENT players do.
same thing sometimes happen in the 500 table. it's not what table you are playing in, it's the players (or scums) you are playing with. |

I checked who both players were based on your rank info. I played enough games with them to know them a bit and they are not that bad as you might think. they just know how the flagging system works. In fact they are more experienced then you and noticed your 1st plce was vulnerable and took the opportunity. I don't defend the ethics of their move but i would say it is in the grey area of acceptable play if neither actually truced with you. The player that said he just wanted 2nd should maybe be a bit more honourable because he kinda implied he had no problem with you being 1st. But always be on your guard if you are 1st and someone is flagged second. If third has a chance for 2nd either immediately attack him and force him to flag 3rd or ask beforehand but demand a clear answer quickly. As you mentioned it was the last game of the month and if you check top100 leaderboard you will see for both of them they needed as much points as possible from that last game to secure their position because 500 points could still make a difference for a spot up/down. By allying against you one of them would convert their 2nd into 1st and their dom would increase considerably for both. |
