Yeah, but for the most part Digg's users are retarded. I mean this is pretty much the case with kdice but still.

TRULY WONDERFUL ARGUMENTS.

1) Lack of communication and disregard for the KDICE community
KDICE is not a newspaper, a magazine, or a blog. It produces no content of its own and is entirely dependent upon its users for traffic. KDICE users hunt down the stories online, craft the descriptions and titles, KDICE the stories, provide all the comments. Despite this dependency, anecdotal evidence suggests that KDICE has repeatedly failed to respond to its users and address their concerns.

2) Unexplained and unacknowledged banning of top users
rnd, integral, and others who have played hundreds of quality games to KDICE were recently banned under suspicious circumstances. KDICE did not acknowledge these bannings, nor make any public explanation as to why they took place. These are not the actions of a “democratic news site.”

3) Lack of transparency – Digg only shows you the stories that people have dugg, but not the ones that are buried.
This has resulted in the birth and flourishing of bury brigades, whose existence has gone unacknowledged, but which undoubtedly have the capability to shape what content gets onto the front page without any interference or objection from other KDICE users.

5) REPEATED AND FLAGRANT DISRESPECT OF ITS TOP USERS.

Digg’s top users generate roughly 30-50% of Digg’s front page content but repeated and unexplained changes to the Digg algorithm have penalized the ability of top users to get front page stories promoted. Perhaps worst of all, this has resulted in other stories from lower ranked users with less diggs being forced off the “Hot In Upcoming” pages and hurt their ability to shine.

In short - the site has become too powerful a media force and its lack of transparency and faith in the community is reason for concern. In addition, the allure of instant traffic has led to the manipulation and abuse of the site by tolls and spammers.

The colletive “WE” built this site from the ground up and while it is sad to leave it, the time has come to move on. We as a loose group of social bookmarkers will find a new community that will allow us to stay in touch and stay informed.

that was really funny (and true), it's like when you watch that video of the car driving on the hillside and then the monster pops out and screams and you shit yourself... well, in this case the whole video is just a change to kdice and you shitting yourself is everyone getting pissy 'cause it's harder for them to win, also, i'm alrite (barely) at kdice, i just don't like that people are better so i complain bitterly until similar people do aswell, how awesome is that...

Well, Ryan, I could bounce back and forth with you by posting links like this: http://www.danah.org/papers/ETech2004.html

and quoting passages like ".

The response is an attempt to "configure the users" -- constrain behavior to acceptable behavior with messaaging, kicking people off, etc.

This won't work: you can't tell a hacker not to hack. These kids are social hackers. You can stop some bad behavior, but you chase off your best users, too."

But, really, I'm done.

See, I had thought that the thing that was going on with this community was that you were attempting to listen to your users and work with them to get this game as close to utopia as would be possible with a game in which people fight to the death for points.

However, what it appears to have turned into is a battle over words between you and certain users, while other users who you seem to agree with run around the site gloating over the power and influence they wield. Despite what you might think, there is zero transparency and a significant belief on the part of a large number of people that you play favorites. I have had at least twenty people tell me in chat rooms that they agreed with what i had to say in the five or so games I played yesterday.

A couple of years ago, I might have tried to fix this, but I've seen what lies at the end of this road one too many times.

I've no interest in being further involved in this poisoned atmosphere and apologize for anything I've done to contribute to it.

It was a good site and a good idea Ryan, and I hope that after all the power users you don't like are gone, people whose sentiments you prefer show up and repopulate the site.

Whether you think so or not, it is my experience that the players you want to get rid of are for the most part the best players in the game, and the stuff that you're complaining about is a result of how the game is designed.

I have one final thought:

What did you expect?

You created a competitive multiplayer game with points at stake, friends lists, the ability to chat at tables, and forums.

Did you not think a community would evolve? Did you not think that some people would take issue with how things are done?
