playing for 2nd

Why does everyone insist on playing for 2nd?? When it comes down to 1 player with 12 or so territories and 3 with 8 or so, why do the 3 smaller players insist on attacking each other to see who will get 2nd? Everyone seems to be afraid to attack the big dog! Show some backbone, for heaven's sake!

In order to successfuly attack the big guy requires team work between those other guys
and well... these days people, like you said, are more interested in second than teamwork... makes it difficult to get any team work going

I like you too :). Really, you probably are better off trying for first. From my experience, one guy gets the good rolls while the other loses a lot in one case. They "cycle" so the rolls are even, but if you hit your streak, you could win

I can't even seam to win a game where I have a 3 - 1 territory advantage.. mostly because I don't win any rolls
so I just go for what I think I can do
lol

Because the guy in 3rd is willing to settle for 2nd and the guy in 2nd doesn't want to drop down to 3rd and lose lots of points. In most cases playing for first causes you to lose points

And for some reason most players prefer a quick game instead of fighting it out back and forth without permanent alliances

A big part of the problem I think also comes from the "you attacked me, now you die" philosophy, where the largest player only attacks the smaller player "foolish" enough to attack him, and doesn't let up for the rest of the game.

If you want a fun game you have to get help slowing down 1st asap (instead of waiting until the game can be decided by alliances), and not many players shall be willing to help you

If you're going to let someone win it's faster and more fair to let the big guy have it

It's a matter of tactics - make allies with those that will be beneficial, destroy those that could later harm you, and gain dominance...

this game has a tremendous amount of tactics involved

some games you cant do a damn thing cuz of luck, which leaves you starting with just a 2 stack and its all over

but so many times in the middle and endgames, especially, choices of where to attack and who to ally are utterly crucial

You have no control over luck. But you have complete control over WHAT luck has control over, ykno?

please just make it so that 2nd and 3rd get the same score, and when it hits the top three have a blinking light above the game read 2ND AND 3RD WILL GET THE SAME SCORE 2ND AND 3RD WILL GET THE SAME SCORE 2ND AND 3RD WILL GET THE SAME SCORE ... that way people will know and they will only try to play for 1st.

I can't think of anything less fun than playing with people who aren't trying to get 1st place.
