Change in flagging?

In the new version which was postponed the flagging got changed, in a way that seems to me to totally change the game. For what reasons - what is the logic behind the change? How excatly does it function?

at 8:23 PM, Saturday December 1, 2007 EST I think its a great idea. ppl say, "I flag for 2nd" then the #1 player leaves him alone, only to be screwed later. I think an enhancement on this would be to show a flag on the player with a '2nd' in it or something to show everyone that the player has accepted that flagging position so that they know he actually did flag for whatever.
