The new dom scoring system cracked.

Here are my inferences about how the new dom scoring works.

At the beginning of the fourth round, all survivors pay 15 points into the dom pot. No more points are paid in at later stages of the game. Every player who survives to the fourth round has at least one land; the share of dom is average lands held at start of turn divided by all lands held at start of turn. If there are 30 lands, your dom payback per land is approximately three points. So if you go out with one land, your dom is about -12 at worst (15 paid in, 3 drawn out). By the time 5 players have gone out, at least 15 points have been drawn out of the pot, leaving 90 maximum left in play if there were seven players to start with (having put in a total of 105 points). If players draw out more points by flagging early, the amount left in play for the two finalists is less.

Under the old Elo system, place and dom were about 50% each, but under this system, place is about 70% and dom 30%.

Since the dom penalty does not kick in until the fourth turn and you can flag on your third turn, flag on your third turn to avoid the dom penalty.

This was at a 10 table. This penalty was definitely put into the "dom pot", as the net dom distribution for the seven players was still zero.

Back to the drawing boards. Nothing like facts to explode a hypothesis.

You might have been wrong skrumgaer, but I like the way you discribed it... If that's not how it is done then maybe it should be? :)

Thus far I like the new system though for a variety of reasons.

I for one appreciate you trying to figure it out. I do agree that it is kind of silly that it's a mystery every month. Why not just post the formula?

And take away the fun from skrum to figure out the formula?!?! He likes that "behind-the-scene" more than the game itself.

I just went out at the earliest I could flag and lost -36 for 7th.

Ludicrous. Love the game, but that's out of whack.
