ISSUE: People who go last have massive disadvantage.
Like posted by another player if your initial draw is horrible, why excatly should you be forced to play for several rounds before you can flag? Effect of this is cumulative with issue of people going first having clear advantage over people who go last. In several games I have been completely erased from the map in two rounds just because I started last and in few cases even in one round before I even had a change to move my dices at all. Is there any strategy in this? People who go at the end of the first round are very ofthen penalised by losing half or more of their dice by the players who went before them. Basically this leads them to huge disadvantage. Now this is supposely compensated by the game giving players who start out last ONE more dice. This is nice but obviously has failed to produce the effect it should have. In other words giving just 1 extra dice has no real effect whatsoever. People who start out last still get eaten out in first round and start with big disadvantage. What are you supposed to do with 1 extra dice anyway when all your other areas get eaten out and you are not strong enough to attack back with your one stack due to all opponent already having got a restack anyway. Solution to first issue: Either make it possible for people who start last to FLAG IMMEDIATELY and not just after several rounds or give them 2 to 3 extra dice (I suggest 2 but this needs to be tested to see if it is enough.) so that they have legit change to survive the initial onslaught. One extra dice just simply put does not cut it. Other possible solution is to give players who start last only one extra dice BUT also better geography. Sincerely, Unique |

So your poor starts in last place will get averaged out with your great starts in first place. |

at 11:21 AM, Tuesday September 11, 2007 EDT Last position can be a very good one. It really depends more on where your stacks are and their size as to what position you will succeed in.
I personally hate going first. There are always huge stacks everywhere and it is too hard to maneuver to get a good connect... especially one that will last once all of the big stacks behind me have their turns. I prefer, in general, to start in 4th or 5th position. This allows others to blaze small stack paths in front of me and I generally still have enough stacks to work well with. Everyone has had starts in last place where they never got a turn or they are left with one land... it's just part of the game. But I've also had plenty of last position starts where everyone else has killed each other off, and because of my position I have a huge advantage. I would not be opposed to adding another die to the 6th and 7th position, however. This might help people get started from these positions a little easier. either way, I'm fine with it. As far as flagging goes... if you want to leave the game, just sit out and go. There is a reason that flagging before the third round is not available, but that doesn't mean that you have to hang around and wait for it. |

I don´t like starting last that much but that´s because it doesn´t go to well with my style of playing. I do like first or fourth best. I also like 6 because of the extra-dice. If I got more than one extra I would certainly like 7th best. If starting last you are a bit more dpendent on luck but it can also be good luck. How you come out of a certain starting position depends much more on skill, a little luck and most important adapting your gameplay. Being killed in the first round is not that often, though it happened to all of us, regardless of starting position. |
