New KDice

I've been around through two iterations of this game, that pissed of people like you wouldn't believe. I personally know Ryan gets a sincere kick out of the high level of passion in which these 'haters' complain -- because it only proves how addictive and great the game really is. The first two times, I probably felt like alot of you do now -- that a change was being made for no reason, against my will (or worse without my input) -- though I was never resentful or outspoken against them.

Unfortunately I never really realized, or appreciated, what was going on behind the scenes. These changes are made for the community -- to fix problems -- and make a better game. Ryan is *giving* us all something; and constantly improving it. Appreciate him. People complained about how the flags could be abused (CONSTANTLY.) and now that is fixed. People complained that the ELO system was being abused, that a select few (who?) were creating an elite circle in the top ranks that couldn't be breached from month to month. Ryan has fixed that. Appreciate the work that has been done. This game is better than it has ever been before.

KDice the game is the same, the paths to winning are the same. You can come back from a bad start, you can ally against the guy in first, and you don't have to expand recklessly. You would all do well to ignore the per turn ante and play your game as you normally would have a year ago. The changes now alow you to simply drop out of a game when you know you can't do better -- something everyone should be happy about. Anyone now has a chance to take first -- to win this game (probably for the first time in months) -- everyone should be happy about that. This is proven by the fact that there are two people on the top of ranks that were never close before -- and many more below them.

The only thing I miss so far is the groups of people that would gather together to watch the high players -- there hasn't been much *watching* since the reset -- I'm only hoping this will change as the table levels continue to rise.

The game is not the same. I detailed this in another thread (where I described a game that I won which would have been completely impossible to win last month).

Your argument essentially says "people complained and Ryan fixed it". What you overlook is the vast majority of players who were fairly complacent, enjoyed the old system, languished in the 1400-1800 ranks for most of their time playing, but were generally happy with the game.

Those people are coming out of the woodwork now to say "whoa what the hell? I never complained about the way the game worked, why did you take it away and replace it with this barely recognizable freecell-poker-kdice hybrid? Can I play the old one?"

their punishment for staying quiet about the mechanics of the old system, ignoring the test server, and complaining now that a game that they enjoyed -- didn't master -- didn't get bored from playing -- is now gone, is being labelled haters.

I think that's bullshit. Ryan has the right to do whatever he wants with his site, but it might be in his best interest to placate the formerly silent majority as well as those who he just placated by installing this upgrade. Or maybe it isn't, who knows..

I agree that the majority of people were probably more than content with the old game -- but my argument isn't that the change was to placate the complainers before. The truth of the matter is -- just because you didn't know you were playing a broken system doesn't mean you weren't. Just because you are complaining now, doesn't mean it's justified.

I read your thread about the game where you got second when in your eyes 'you shouldn't have'. From your story, it was clear that the person you were behind would die first (you said he pissed off the #1 player, i think). Sure, the free land grab you got because of the flag is a change, but it's probably the "fairest" way to handle a player leaving the game.

Anyway, your story is diametrically opposed to the chief complaint people have about the new system -- that it induces and promotes flagging early. I think it's unlikely that it can both reward staying in the game, and reward flagging early at the same time :P

Word. People who are suddenly uncomfortable will soon realize the game is just as addicting as it ever was and will learn to love the changes as you and I have.
