To Truce Or Not To Truce? That Is The Question.

Yup, you've heard this a thousand times before - and you'll hear it a thousand more. Personally, I think trucing blows a lot of smoke up a lot of players jackies.
Know why? Because this is a game of war. It's not about helping others out. It's not about coming 2nd. It's not about winning favour or influencing people. It's about war. Win, lose or draw. So you lost. You came last. You lost points. Did you learn anything? Did you just get a bad roll? Were you a little hasty? Were you a little slow? The point is this. Unless you came here with the intention of winning by hook or by crook, don't truce. Not only does it draw undue attention to yourself, it makes a sham of what is, and should be, a personal game. Sure. Have a chinwag. Chew the fat. Sledge the opponents. Get into a personal vendetta with another player - but please don't truce. It defies the nature of the game and it makes a mockery of it. To truce not only shows incredible ineptitude regarding tactics, but it also makes you look a bit of a cock. Stop relying on others to win FOR you. That's my bit. I know there are thousands of useless players out there who disagree, so lets hear it. |

at 12:28 AM, Thursday August 23, 2007 EDT I would like to take this moment to preach anarchy (a biproduct of non-trucing): NO MORE KINGS, NO MORE LORDS, NO MORE MASTERS! LONG LIVE THE SERFS, THE PROLETARIAT, THE SLAVES!
Just getting them pumped up Brubaker ;) (nice avatar by the way) |

at 4:51 AM, Thursday August 23, 2007 EDT Personally, i wouldn't suggest a truce during a game. But i don't object to it. All's fair in love and war. You need allies as much as you need enemies, and diplomacy is just as much part of the game as sheer luck.
Having said that, I must also say i get really pissed off when the no1 player during a game calls for a truce with the no2. How lame is that? Never ever truce with the player ranked 1st! Be a sport and unite with other players to try take him down. |

at 10:46 AM, Thursday August 23, 2007 EDT Bah, all the really big war have allies. WWII, for instance. And I like to pretend this is a really big war. 1 dice = at least 500 guys. Try to imagine their bodies scattered across territories, their mothers crying at the losses. It makes the game way better.

at 6:02 PM, Thursday August 23, 2007 EDT If players are playing intelligently, truces aren't really necessary. If one player seems to be dominating, focus on that player if you can. Leave the little guys alone; they might be able to help you later. Attacking people irritates them and makes them want to attack you back.
That said, to each their own. Everyone's got a slightly different play style. I don't know how many times I've seen people get downright irate because someone behaves differently than they do. How egocentric! Just be quiet and enjoy the game. You win some, you lose some. If it's your turn to lose, accept it gracefully and try again. That said, a strategy I've seen come up to cope with truces is to make countertruces. If you dislike truces, try make a countertruce with all the other non-truced players on the board. That'll teach them (provided the other players dislike truces as well)! :) Though I don't tend to truce, if someone offers a truce I generally avoid attacking them. They're saying they want peace to be able to focus on other opponents. If they do not attack me, I do not attack them (unless I have to). |
