at 8:04 AM, Monday June 4, 2007 EDT Hello, copy/pasted some of my reply from your gpokr topic:
Basically elo is how often you win, but is modified by the skill level of your opponents. You gain *Score* every game based on your elo rank. If you have 10th elo then end of game you gain 1/10th = 0.1 points or 1/500th = 0.002 points Basically you get most points from games that your elo is at it's highest. whoops, score is the new/2nd system and separate from elo. More details at: http://kdice.wikispaces.com/Ranking+System **** More detailed elo explanation is: Before the game begins, pretend you're expected to rank/finish an average of 4th. But if you're playing against weak opponents you'd average better than 4th and get too many points from easy opposition, so "elo" modifies your expected rank using something similar to the standard logistic function. I believe kdice currently uses something similar to: Ea = 1/[1 + 5^((Rx - Ra)/400)] Ea = Expected rank of player a Rx = Rating of player X Ra = Rating of player a So say if you have 1900 vs a 1500 player, Ea = 0.83 1) vs 6 opponents: Ea = (0.83 + .83 + .83 + .83 + .83 + .83) = 5 2) 2300 vs 6x 1500: Ea = 5.77 3) 1500 vs 6x 1900: Ea = 1 4) 1500 vs 6x 1500: Ea = 3 To adjust rating you take Expected Rank and plug it into a linear formula vs a K-value to get Elo points adjustment for each game, here's an example formula (I think kdice changed it's k-value from 32 to 16 because ratings changed too fast from luck, I think it should try a k-value of 8 but meh...): R'a = Ra + 16(Sa - Ea) ((R'a = new rating for player a, Ra = previous rating, Sa = Score from game)) Let's say you get 4th in the game, then somehow: 1) R'a = Ra - 32 2) -44 points 3) +32 points 4) +0 points ps: the 5 from the logistic function used to be a 10, but your change in elo was *way* too influenced by the elo of your opponents, I also think this should be changed to 4 or lower because it still seems very risky to play at a table or 2 below your rank. All the best! |

at 8:13 AM, Monday June 4, 2007 EDT at this point in time (as im writing this) ur kdice statistics read...
1339th(0.00) , 1500(11453th) ok, this means... 0.00 = ur score - its actually 0.0041268 but has been rounded to 2 decimal places 1339th = ur rank, based off ur score to simplify, ur SCORE of 0.00 is the 1339th best in the kdice community. 1500 = ur rating 11453th = ur rank, based off ur rating to simplify, ur RATING of 1500 is the 11453th best in the kdice community. now thats cleared up, heres how u work out, how to accumilate points... 1 divided by ur rank (rating) + score so urs is 1/11453 = 0.xxxxx added to 0.0041268 so...if u can get u r RATING to be the best, which at the mo stands at 2356 (LUCK), u will get 1 point added to ya SCORE per game because 1 divided by 1 = 1 just to give u some exaples X luck X = 2356 (best rating), so 1/1 = 1 added to SCORE rnd = 2324 (2nd best rating), so 1/2 = 0.5 added to SCORE montecarlo = 2285 (3rd best rating), so 1/3 = 0.33* added to SCORE etc... the rank u see when u sitting at table is the one based off ur SCORE, which is 1339th is the one u need to concentrate on... the more u play, the more ur score will be increased...trick is to get a high ELO 2000's and maintain it! i hope i aint confused you...lol xxx |

at 8:21 AM, Monday June 4, 2007 EDT yep, i also forget to mention that now half of adjusted rating goes to dominance adjustment, which is based on your Average Size relative to opponents
Since he said he read wikipedia ELO entry I thought he wanted a technical explanation, but looks like nope so I overdid it by a million... |

at 9:13 AM, Monday June 4, 2007 EDT To play well, all you need to know about score is:
1) Each time someone is eliminated, you get a couple dominance points for having higher Average Size than your opponents. 2) Ranking points are linear, so you get more points for two 2nds (against equal opponents) than you would with a 1st and a 4th. 3) Both are influenced by elo, it's better to play against high rated opponents. 4) Your score rank goes up heaps faster if you maintain a really high elo. 5) Any other specific questions can be answered by the kdice wiki or here in the forums. * ((depending on what's been changed, I could be wrong about anything I've said today)) All the best! |
