Not Attacking Flagged Players

On multiple occasions recently I have been criticized for attacking flag players-- and none of these times was I in first or even second. I recognize that it's a frequent courtesy (though NOT a requirement) for the first-place player not to attack flagged players, but since when are the losing players expected to recognize this? It makes absolutely no sense.

though whining and bitching is also a valid strategy which i tend to utilize as well; nothing wrong with that either. |

at 5:46 PM, Friday May 11, 2007 EDT I'll admit that I don't like to be attacked when flagged, especially if there are other colors that are equally weak and not flagged, but I think the consensus is that flag = "ready for game over" and affords you no protection at all. When attacking, I avoid flagged players if all else is equal, but if I see an advantage to taking a territory, flag status has no bearing on my decision to attack.
As for critiques, I may point out the meaning of flags if I'm feeling chatty, otherwise they are just ignored. |

at 10:15 AM, Saturday May 12, 2007 EDT Only issue I have is when it makes no real difference if the leader goes after one of 2 nations, yet decides to pick off the flagged guy. Sometimes board texture simply makes it the sensible move though and I have no gripes about being attacked while flagged or attacking flags in those spots.

at 6:18 PM, Saturday May 12, 2007 EDT clef, i feel for you. i dont see anything wrong attacking a flagged player. there are a bunch of people saying attacking flagged players is the utlimate sin but mind you, it's only a bunch of players, probably a minority. if that's the rule they want to go by, so be it and i respect that. just dont expect everyone here to obey the so-called rule.
in fact, if you have to flag, you are probably better off getting killed of. hanging in there with 2/3 territories for a lot of rounds will only hurt your average size/dominance. |

at 7:12 AM, Sunday May 13, 2007 EDT As long as the flag only gets a function when everyone will be flagged and ESPECIALLY as long as you can take back your flag any time again, there should be no influence on the game by flagging.
Everything in that direction is pure diplomacy/chat. The new "I flag to XY" is a nice form of diplomacy, which I like to use but it doesn't really have anything to do with the flag button. You could also say "I will flag to XY, as soon as YX will be flagged"... The flag button has nothing to do with the diplomacy around it, since it can be taken back and has no influence untill everyone else is flagged. |
