What were Effects of New Minimum Limits for Tables in June?
Posted By: skrumgaer at 1:11 PM, Thursday June 26, 2008 EDT
I would like some input on the effect that minimum limits on tables may have had on your percentage profiles (% of firsts, seconds, thirds, etc.) for June.

That is, if you have not changed your style of play in June compared to previous months, have you noticed any change in shape of your profile that might be attributable to the rule change?

Also indicate whether the effect was directly caused (because of which tables you sat at) or indirectly caused (because of who sat at your tables).

I am not sure that it has affected my profile negatively (TAPL should show that), but the fact that I have to play at higher tables has probably improved my score. It might be just this month but I have a nicer distribution ( this better not jinx me)with a lot less 7ths and more 1sts. It could be I'm finally having a good month.

I have found that they have really helped improve my game. I used only to play on the 100 and 0 tables but with the table limits I began to play 500 tables a lot and have improved vastly becuase of it without a dramatic change to the way I play. I am in the top 100 now and it would have never happened without table limits and doing well has encouraged me to play more games. I think that the table limits are a great idea as they encourage players to test themselves at a higher level and they stop higher point players from taking advantage of lower ones.

I agree with ollie's comments. Playing more 500s forces players to refine their strategies.

As to effect on my percentage profile, I have more 2nds and fewer 3rds, 4ths, and 6ths in June as compared to May. This is probably due to the more mid-game alliances at the 500 level tables.

The minimum limits are a good thing. Keep it up Ryan!

The effect! LOL! Look at my profile! LOL. Sit on 500 table, spread on the 4 diff. corners. Lost between 308 and 410 points. Ok... lets go to the next 500. Spread to the 4 different corners. Lost : 308 - 410 points. Next table. Yeah , the perfect start. Last to go. NP. Oh no, i am reduced to one spot. Ok. Lost: 308-410. Next table. Great 3rd. Won: 30 points. Total....lost: 1k, won: 30. Perfect. Kiss my ass!

Well,

Table limits create more PGA's than usuall. I mean, we used to have options...and options are fun.

It was great to be able to run up and down the field of tables with diff limits in months passed. Before table limits, you could choose to actually play a fair game at the 0 or 100 table just for fun.
But now the 500 tables are more PGA'd than usuall. And forget about playing at the 2.5k or 10k unless you bring your possie. I mean everybody is cool. I have no issues with how the game varies from the high to the low tables. But being forced to play at the high limit tables forces me to play politician contantly. And sometimes..I want to just chill and play for fun...and play honestly. And don't say play with an alt account at the lower tables...thats pointless.

So anyway..those are my points.

Remove table limits!!

Peace

Why not just severely limit the points gains possible on smaller tables instead of ruling them out altogether? I'm a total noob here (though I've played dicewars obsessively), I found it less than a week ago, and after a lucky streak I'm on 1000+ points and stuck on the higher tables. I like it, more strategy seems to be involved, but I also feel like I need a couple of warm-up games in the 0-100 tables before playing at the 500. It's intimidating having to play at that level with my fresh newbieness when it comes to alliances etc..

The newly established table limits had nearly no affect on my gameplay, as I would move up to the highest possible table as soon as I could anyways.

However, I don't like how I can't play with some of my friends at the lower tables. The limits completely alienate me from them. :( Yea, I can IM them, but playing a game with them is much more fun.

Besides, the lower tables are so savagely unfriendly that one really doesn't have all that good a chance at winning consistently anyways.

So, I'd rather have the table limits taken down.

I think a solution would be to introduce practice tables so then that people on the higher tables can play for fun and with their lower-table frends and not be worried about losing points and this would solve one of the main problems with table limits posted by DDDY and MBP.
